WONDER&WANDER is fundraising for our future open-art stations and classes. These stations and classes are the focus of the visual art studio's daily work. Our resident teaching artists will staff these stations and classes, providing guidance when it is requested. Each station and class provides a unique opportunity for WONDER&WANDER to further our mission.
WONDER&WANDER plans to offer six children's and youth choirs:
All of WONDER&WANDER's choirs are designed to encourage children and youth who have an interest in developing their skills in group singing. We will focus on classical, folk, and art song styles. In each choir, we will advance our skills in solfege, note reading, and vocal technique throughout the seasons. There will be two seasons per year, Fall and Spring, ending each season with performances.
Within the first three years of operation, WONDER&WANDER will be fundraising to open a Children's Theater. This will be a part of our Performing Arts Studio and will add revenue producing services to compliment our base operation. Our Children's Theater will offer high-quality, wholesome, and affordable live entertainment in a clean and elegant facility. It will bring family-oriented live entertainment to those in the community who would otherwise travel to other cities for such enjoyment. In addition, Children's Theater, performance and technical classes will be offered to youth throughout the year with the opportunity for Summer Camps.
WONDER&WANDER has future plans to open a Children's Museum focused on Visual and Performing Arts. Planning and Fundraising will begin within the first year of operation, with plans to open once 100% of all planned expenses are covered.
WONDER&WANDER is dedicated to fostering the creative spirits of all children. To this end, we will offer an extensive outreach program, Art Wanders. WONDER&WANDER will provide programming that meets the needs of schools, community groups, and private organizations. Most programs will run between one and two hours in length, and run during regular studio hours, but arrangements can be made to accommodate before and after hours programs. In addition, WONDER&WANDER will provide programming for children with special abilities. WONDER&WANDER expects that Art WANDERS will eventually be a substantial part of its programming.
WONDER&WANDER will have two art galleries:
The resident teaching artists will be available to answer questions and guide visitors through the galleries. These galleries provide an opportunity for our visitors to explore the full range of visual arts in all its forms, past and present. As children are exposed to quality art, it becomes an integral part of their lives. These experiences will be the catalyst to a lifetime of appreciation of and a respect for their own creativity and the creativity of others.
Our facility will house an extensive non-circulating children’s library that will contain high quality books about artists, dancers, musicians, composers, and their lives and work. WONDER&WANDER will also provide a resource library for youth who are interested in furthering their knowledge of the arts. The resource library will be a collection of reference books, guides, prints, collections, and brochures that will enable the user to learn more about the work of a particular artist, style, or period in art history.
WONDER&WANDER will have a Second Sunday Family Workshop that will give all members of families the opportunity to create art together in a positive and fun environment. Our senior staff artists will introduce new and involved art processes for a creative, yet challenging experience.
The First Friday Concert Series will begin as a bi-monthly event until WONDER&WANDER has been in operation for one full year. This programming will then be presented on a monthly basis. The programs will be one hour in length and will feature classical, jazz, and world music, as well as dance, storytelling, and theatre performances presented by Southwestern and Local performers.
WONDER&WANDER will offer music classes after the completion of our first year, for children and young adults interested in learning about music as a performing art, tailored to specific ages groups through classes, workshops, and seminars. Topics include but are not limited to: Music Theory, Beginners Piano, Sound Engineering, History of Rock, Master Karaoke, and Musical Tinkers. The Desert Music Internship is held once weekly. Students can choose to participate on a weekly basis, or cater the program to meet their needs and register for only a portion of the program. All sessions are led by a resident teaching musician. The Desert Music Internship will become a regular part of WONDER&WANDER's programming after we have been in operation for two full years.
WONDER&WANDER will sponsor two art classes for young children: Jumping Cholla Academy and Summer Poppy Society. Participants will have an intensive multi-media arts experience that involves painting, collage, music, and movement. They will develop an awareness of their environment through the manipulation of materials, and sensory awareness is expanded through activities that stimulate hearing, sight, and touch. The classes will meet weekly. Classes will be facilitated by a resident teaching artist.
WONDER&WANDER will also offer a unique art program directed toward the interests of young adults between the ages of 13 and 17. We will offer a flexible series of special classes, workshops, and seminars that introduce students to a wide variety of art mediums. Topics include but are not limited to: the basics of photography and darkroom, cartooning and animation, and exploring the art of portraiture, working with watercolors, media design, and ceramics. The Desert Artist Internship is held once weekly for three hours. Students can choose to participate on a weekly basis, or cater the program to meet their needs and register for only a portion of the program. All sessions are led by a resident teaching artist. The Desert Artist Internship will become a regular part of WONDER&WANDER's programming after we have been in operation for one full year.
WONDER&WANDER's children's choirs do not have a season during the summer, but we will offer weeklong summer camps throughout the months of June and July instead. Summer Camps will be specific and tailored to ages of each group. At the end of each week long camp, there will be a performance to show off their skills.
WONDER&WANDER plans to open a small Wonder Shop that will sell affordable, quality art supplies, handmade toys, and other unique items. Most items will be made by artists and sold on a consignment basis. Our monthly Wonder Boxes (activity boxes) will also be available for sale at the Wonder Shop.
